Williamson High School’s football team, Russell went on to become the all-time passing leader in Alabama state history, amassing over 10,000 passing yards. Russell went on to play college football for Louisiana State University, becoming the Tigers’ undisputed starting quarterback in 2005, just his sophomore year. Russell really burst onto the scene in 2006, his junior year, when the young quarterback led his team to a 10-2 record and an appearance in the 2006 BCS Sugar Bowl against Notre Dame. Russell put up astronomical numbers in LSU’s 41-14 victory over the Fighting Irish, accumulating over 350 total yards from scrimmage and throwing for three touchdowns. He was named MVP of the game.
