The 1984 Tigers started the season 35-5, finished with a franchise-record 104 victories and cruised to a World Series title. In his first year as manager in 2006, the Tigers were the surprise team of the league, winning the American League wild-card berth, then upsetting the New York Yankees in the first round of the playoffs.
